Artist Statement
I have a reverence for time and its continuous effect on all things.
I am fascinated by the transformation and synthesis of our constantly changing world.
I strive to capture the details, while broadening my technique to create a more interpretive experience. Each view is a complex whole of interacting, interrelated and interdependent elements.
Plein Air painting challenges me to capture those fleeting moments… the glimmers, reflections, trains passing, birds in unison, drifting clouds and moving shadows from mountain top vistas to tidal sloughs. Each attempt results in new discoveries with a deeper connection to where I live and the world around me.
I have been painting Plein Air for the last 13 years and was leading a group of Plein Air artists known as the East Bay Landscape Painters, painting at various locations throughout the East Bay.
In 2021, I moved to the Delta and began a new series: Grindstone Joe's. It's a very special place to be!
