As a fine artist, printmaker and designer, I am always looking to expand each process in challenging new directions. I am inspired by nature… the incredible beauty of a feather… the incandescence of a fly… the weaving of a nest. I also have a reverence for time and its continuous effect on all things. I am fascinated by the transformation and synthesis of our constantly changing world.
I strive to capture the details, while broadening my techniques to create a more interpretive experience. Each view is a complex whole of interacting, interrelated and interdependent elements.
Plein air painting challenges me to capture those fleeting moments… the glimmers, reflections, trains passing, birds in unison, drifting clouds and moving shadows from mountain top vistas to tidal sloughs. Each attempt results in new discoveries with a deeper connection to where I live and the world around me.
I have been painting plein air for the last 11 years. I lead a group of plein air artists known as the East Bay Landscape Painters (300+ members), to paint at various locations throughout the East Bay, every Monday.
In 2016, I created and maintain a gallery space at the Berkeley Yacht Club, showcasing a local artist every two months.
